Police nab 5 armed robbers in Lagos
Three armed robbery suspects are pleading for mercy as they "they have gone for only five operations"
It is the end of the road for five armed robbers as they have been arrested by men of the Lagos State Police Command.
Justice caught up with 20-year-old Benneth Kwum, 28-year-old Monday Obembe and 26-year-old Gbolahan Lawal on
Wednesday, December 17, 2014, when they were arrested by operatives of
the state Special Anti-Robbery Squad. The suspects were rounded up by
police at the Seven-Up Ijora area of Lagos while they were attempting to
sell a stolen Toyota Camry.
Police say the three
suspects belong to a six-man gang who had robbed their victim of money,
laptops and wristwatches before doing away with his 2010 edition Toyota
Camry.
According to Punch, two locally-made double-barrelled pistols and one single-mouth pistol were also recovered by the police from the gang.
The armed robbers while speaking to Punch confessed to have undertaken five operations in different part of Lagos.
Gbolahan
Lawal who is said to be the leader of the gang revealed that they
snatched the Toyota Camry from the house of their victim and also
collected N30,000 from him.
Recalling when he
first started out as an armed robber, Lawal revealed that he collected
one of the guns from a cultist friend of his and was working as a lotto
agent in Ijora prior to him becoming a robber. He said the need to take
care of his siblings forced him into robbery.
“We have gone for only five operations. I hope we can still be forgiven,” the gang leader told Punch.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu confirmed that the suspects have confessed to many robbery operations and would be charged to court after investigations.
