Marcelo: Atletico Madrid used dirty tricks

The Brazilian has hit out at the Spanish champions' tactics in the wake of his side's first-leg defeat at the Vicente Calderon

Real Madrid defender Marcelo claimed Atletico Madrid's used "dirty tricks" to win their Copa del Rey last-16 first leg on Wednesday.

Raul Garcia converted a penalty around the hour mark to open the scoring, before Jose Gimenez made it two to give Diego Simeone's men a comfortable lead heading into the second leg.

"Atletico played the long ball and used dirty tricks," Marcelo was quoted as saying by AS.

"This result is very difficult to overcome. We started well but again, set-pieces... The defeat is not fair. The pitch was difficult. Their game is only to play the long ball.

"There is another game and it is in our stadium. Let's see what the coach will tell us to counter that kind of football.

"There are 90 minutes left and we will fight on our home soil and attempt to get back into it."

Wednesday's encounter was Atleti's third consecutive Madrid derby victory and Real's second defeat on the bounce since the start of the year.

The return is scheduled to take place at the Santiago Bernabeu on January 15.
