Ibrahimovic wins Puskas Award

 

 

 

 

The Sweden international's strike for his country against England in November 2012 saw off competition from Nemanja Matic and Neymar

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has won the Puskas Award for his memorable overhead kick for Sweden against England in an international friendly.

The Paris Saint-Germain star scored every goal to defeat the Three Lions 4-2 in the first match at the Friends Arena in Solna back in November 2012.

The last was a spectacular bicycle kick to seal the victory and was enough to see off competition from Nemanja Matic's goal for Benfica against Porto in the Primeira Liga last term and Neymar's strike for Brazil against Japan.

The Puskas Award was first awarded back in 2009 for Cristiano Ronaldo's goal against Porto and has since been given to the likes of Hamit Altintop, Neymar and Miroslav Stoch.

Ibrahimovic, 31, was previously nominated for the 2011 edition of the prize for his strike for AC Milan against Lecce in Serie A but lost out to Barcelona's young Brazilian attacker, then playing for Santos.

The former Inter and Juventus striker was also named as in the FIFPro World Xi, forming an all-star front three with Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
